You've gotta have expirence no about the game and beable to socializ with a team and lead them

    Well first off you have to play at least College Basketball. You will have Zero Credibility on the game if you aren't good at it.

    If you see sucessfull NBA/College Coaches, they all have at least College Basketball playing expericence:

    Phil Jackson- Played for the Knicks
    Greg Poppivich-played Basketball for the military
    Larry Brown-former College basketball player
    Mike Krzyschewski (sp?)- played Basketball at Princeton
    Doc Rivers- former NBA player

    etc. etc.

    Go to college, Major in Sports Management, meanwhile try and get on as a volunteer assistant coach on the coaching staff, be a student of the game and start paying your dues. Eventually this may lead to a paid position on the coaching staff or open doors for you to get a paid position elsewhere. Establish yourself as a good coach. Try to work your way into a head coaching job, D3, whatever. If everything goes well for you and you can establish yourself as a knowledgeable Work your way into the D1 ranks as an assistant or eventually a head coaching job. Begin to apply for NBA coaching openings as they come available. Another route is to try and get a job within the management (Office) on an NBA team. Position and work your way in from there. You Do Not have to be a college player to work you way into the coaching ranks. This is the road Lawerance Frank of the NJ Nets went

    Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, Frank graduated from Teaneck High School, but never made the school's basketball team.

    Frank earned his B.S. in education from Indiana University in 1992, where he spent four seasons as a manager for the Hoosier basketball team led by Bob Knight.

    Frank spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Grizzlies under Brian Hill. Hill would later serve as Frank's assistant with the New Jersey Nets. His responsibilities with the Grizzlies included scouting upcoming opponents as well as practice and bench coaching duties.

    Before joining the Grizzlies, Frank served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee for three seasons under Head Coach Kevin O'Neill. Frank first worked with O'Neill as a staff assistant at Marquette University in 1992 and during his tenure, helped lead the Marquette Warriors to two NCAA tournament berths and a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1994. He also holds an M.S. in education administration from Marquette.

    Nathan Nice - Krzyzewski attended Weber High School in Chicago, Illinois. He then attended The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and played basketball under Bob Knight while training to become an officer in the Army. He was captain of the Army basketball team in his senior season, 1968-69, leading his team to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. From 1969–74, Krzyzewski served in the Army and directed service teams for three years, and then followed that up with two years as head coach of the U.S. Military Academy Prep School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
